Somewhere along the way, "stepping up to Manager" started meaning "absorb everyone else's stress." That's not actually a law of nature, it's just how a lot of firms happen to run.

This independent mid market CPA firm, around 150 people across three Texas offices, runs it differently. Big enough for a solid client base, real resources, and genuine room to grow. Small enough that Managers actually work alongside Partners rather than several rungs away from them, with real input into how engagements and client relationships get handled.

At this level you'll carry proper ownership, of clients, of engagements, and of the people you're developing beneath you. Close enough to the work to always know what's happening, but the value you bring is in leading teams and keeping things on track, not doing everyone's job for them.

The client portfolio spans nonprofit, financial services, and general commercial work, so your experience keeps broadening instead of narrowing into one lane. The role sits out of the Tyler office, with genuinely flexible hours outside busy season. Sustainability isn't a talking point here, it's actually built into how the firm operates, which matters if you're thinking long term about a public accounting career without defaulting to a bigger firm or a heavier lifestyle to get there.

$120,000 to $150,000 plus bonus.
