This is an off-campus student employment opportunity located at PATH in Tyler, Texas. Students selected for this role will travel to the PATH facility and will not work on the TJC campus.

As a TJC Student Assistant at PATH, you will assist with a variety of administrative and operational tasks that support PATH's mission of serving individuals and families in the community. Responsibilities may include assisting in the food pantry, supporting reception duties, organizing donations, performing data entry, and providing administrative support to caseworkers.


* Student Assistant positions are subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities Food Pantry Support
  • Shopper:
    Assist families in selecting pantry items, maintain a calm and compassionate atmosphere, and record incoming donations.
  • Carry Out:
    Help customers transport their pantry items to their vehicles while offering friendly interaction. Assist with projects and record donations as needed.
  • Stocker:
    Organize, sort, and stock pantry items, including freezers and shelves. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pantry and storeroom.
Reception Duties
  • Welcome clients and visitors with kindness and professionalism.
  • Verify service eligibility and assist new clients in completing intake forms.
  • Stay updated on PATH services and refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.
  • Always maintain client confidentiality.
  • Utilize minimal computer skills to manage client information.
Casework
  • Meet one-on-one with clients to assess their needs and connect them to PATH services.
  • Collect and document necessary data using Charity Tracker software.
  • Provide direct assistance through service vouchers and referrals to other community resources.
  • Work with the Emergency Services Case Manager for cases requiring special consideration.

Work Environment:

Work is primarily conducted during normal business hours

Physical Demands:

Sitting, walking, typing, prolonged standing, repetitive hand movements and typing, significant bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting or carrying materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Travel Required:

Yes- to PATH location

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Students must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain enrollment status to work in these positions. Students may qualify for Federal Work Study, which will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Additional Job-Specific Requirements

Students are allowed to work a maximum of eighteen (18) hours per week and cannot work in multiple hourly positions. The work week is Monday through Thursday, with available shifts anytime between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM on those days.
