The Clinical Faculty, Dental Studies reports to the Department Chair of Dental Studies. The position facilitates orientation and clinical settings for dental hygiene students, equipping them with the skills necessary for success in the field.

This is a part-time position, subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.

General Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning
  • Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge and experience in the teaching field and assigned teaching discipline
  • Create a classroom environment reflecting professionalism, equity, respect, and trust
  • Adhere to college policies
  • Abide by Employee Standards of Conduct - DH (Exhibit)
  • Perform job duties as assigned by department chair and dean (unless request violates policy or local/state/federal laws)
  • Stay current with and follow departmental and college policies
  • Complete required compliance trainings and stay current on professional development hours
Responsibilities to Students
  • Commit to student success through consistent, evidence-based instruction
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, BLS certification, TSBDE regulations, TJC training, and CODA standards
  • Stay updated on clinic policies, email communications, and departmental notes
  • Follow clinic dress code and PPE standards; no phone use on the clinic floor except for urgent matters
  • Verify patient information before treatment begins; remain present and available during clinical care
  • Coach students in patient care, documentation, infection control, and professional standards
  • Apply consistent, equitable evaluation methods per the Clinic Manual; seek clarification as needed
  • Provide respectful feedback, motivate students, and foster a professional learning environment
  • Ensure accuracy in all documentation and complete evaluations before leaving the clinic
  • Adhere to attendance expectations; arrange substitutes when necessary
Responsibilities to the Department
  • Communicate procedures and grading policies to staff and students
  • Support departmental goals, improvements, and initiatives
  • Attend required meetings and fulfill assignments from the clinic coordinator, chair, or dean
Responsibilities to the College
  • Maintain accurate student records; model professionalism and enforce conduct policies
  • Maintain all required licensures, certifications, and memberships
  • Contribute to the college’s mission through active participation beyond classroom and office hours
Responsibilities to the Community
  • Network with community members and others to promote the program and its students
  • Exhibit conduct that reflects the mission, vision, and values of the institution and the community
Discipline- or Position-Specific Competencies
  • Exhibit sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities
  • Comply with clinic and laboratory policies and procedures
  • Comply with student and patient confidentiality
Other Expectations
  • Assist with the preparation for all clinical/lab activities
  • Evaluate student performance based on calibrated criteria
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the clinic/laboratory
Required

Education and Experience
  • BS in Dental Hygiene OR AAS in Dental Hygiene and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Three years of current dental hygiene clinical experience
Required Credentials/Licensure
  • Current Texas license to practice professional dental hygiene or dentistry
  • Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) training required
Preferred Experience
  • At least two years of teaching experience
  • Strong background in teaching methodology and community health
Additional Job-Specific Requirements
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action

    Ultrasonic sound, Indoor settings; occasional work outside regular hours; days can vary based on clinic schedule

  • Travel Required:

    Yes – Minimal 10%
  • If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
