Job Summary The University Academy Longview campus is building a pool of qualified Grade 4‑8 classroom teachers. The role is a 9‑month university appointment, expected to conduct face‑to‑face and online project‑based learning in a STEM‑focused environment. The teacher will receive support from a Campus Director, central office administrators, professional development specialists, and university faculty. Teachers may be required to participate in graduate‑level work and, if not already holding a master’s degree, to be enrolled in a master’s program as part of the compensation package.
MajorResponsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks
- Direct instruction of students.
- Curriculum development and lesson planning.
- Classroom and student management.
- Communication and outreach.
- Assist with other campus activities as needed (e.g., breakfast/lunch duty, pick‑up duty).
- Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities and use distance technologies with teachers at other campuses.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Appropriate grade/subject certification.
- Content knowledge and curriculum understanding.
- Ability to integrate multiple technologies.
- Ability to integrate project‑based learning.
- Ability to integrate STEM disciplines.
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
- Experience working with special needs students.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize teams and meet deadlines.
This position is for 192 school days, following the University Academy District Calendar each school year (typically mid‑August to early June). There is no vacation accrual since summers are off. Salary and benefits are paid on a 12‑month distribution, with monthly pay possibly prorated based on the remaining school days. The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and 135 days in length.
