Location: UT Tyler Health Science Center

This is a PRN/As Needed position. The SOM Skills Instructor position is integral in the training of faculty, staff, residents, students, and members of the community. This person will have the required credentials of an American Heart Association Instructor (AHA) as well as clinical experience in their respective field.

• Follow the direction of the AHA Training Center Coordinator (TCC).
• Conduct skills practice stations in accordance with AHA and UTT Tyler SMILE Center policies.
• Conduct skills testing stations in accordance with AHA policies and procedures.
• Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students master essential competencies.
• Ensure proper use and safety procedures for medical equipment and medications.
• Maintain realistic simulation scenarios to replicate real‑world emergencies.
• Integrate legal and ethical considerations into medical decision‑making training.

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• One (1) year experience with simulation and scenario‑based learning.

• Current AHA instructor in BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals).
• Current AHA instructor in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
• Current AHA instructor in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
• Will consider a combination of AHA instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
• Commitment to student success and providing high‑quality education.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
