Asst Professor of Physiology

Full‑Time / 40 hours

Salary: commensurate with experience

Job Summary

The Department of Biology at the University of Texas in Tyler is seeking a nine‑month, tenure‑track position in physiology. The candidate should be able to teach an upper‑division Physiology course, contribute to graduate teaching, and mentor M.S. students. The candidate will be required to establish a strong, extramurally funded research program in the candidate’s area of expertise and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and mentoring.

Participation in departmental, college, and university committees and outreach programs is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of collaborative research.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field with postdoctoral experience in physiology
  • Demonstrated research creativity, productivity, and grantsmanship
  • Ability to develop a strong, extramurally‑funded research program
  • Demonstrated record of collaborative research
  • Evidence of effective teaching and other communication skills
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate or graduate levels is highly desirable

Faculty work across diverse sub‑disciplines, including genomics, population genetics, evolution, ecology, neurobiology, microbiology, and molecular biology. The department provides access to core facilities such as the Texas Advanced Computing Cluster (TACC) and other resources at UT Austin.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a 20‑hour per week minimum and 135 days in length. The position also offers the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to a 40‑hour per week minimum and 135 days. This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215. Applicants must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by the time of hire.
