The Assistant Director of the TJC Promise is responsible for providing leadership to Success Coaches and overseeing the program’s day‑to‑day operations that help participants become college‑ready and complete post‑secondary credentials at the College. In addition to maintaining a coaching caseload, this position serves as a key contact for counselors at 18 TJC Promise schools and helps ensure databases are accurate and updated so that approximately 8000 Promise students and their families are knowledgeable of the steps needed to have a seamless transition to TJC.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS and DUTIES Responsibilities
- Direct the day‑to‑day operations of the TJC Promise program;
- Manage and facilitate the pledge sign‑up process for nearly 3,000 high school freshmen at TJC Promise schools;
- Provide leadership, mentorship, training, and supervision to TJC Promise Success Coaches;
- Promote participation in the TJC Promise program by organizing pledge events at Promise high schools, informing stakeholders of program benefits, and engaging students throughout their time as Promise Scholars;
- Utilize multiple software programs (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.) to track progress and generate reports to promote data‑driven strategies and identify barriers to student success;
- Create and facilitate the completion of cohort‑wide engagement plans that support successful participation in the Promise program through written correspondence, email campaigns, and mass texting;
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective partnerships that meet mutual goals;
- Assist the Director, Educational Partnerships, in the management of the program’s budget;
- Consistently engage with Promise Scholars to promote success through one‑on‑one meetings, events, and application drives;
- Interface with students during preview days, new student orientations, and campus events designed to increase student success;
- Provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and service excellence;
- Represent the TJC Promise at a variety of internal and external events;
- Assist in leading the hiring process of TJC Promise Success Coaches;
- Ensure high‑quality success coaching practices are taking place in the TJC Promise program;

Work EnvironmentIndoor office settings with occasional work required outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends)
Physical DemandsLifting up to 20 pounds, standing, bending, repetitive typing, pushing up to 50 pounds, walking, occasional climbing stairs, regular use of and prolonged periods of verbal communication (including in‑person and by phone), and regular operation of standard office equipment.
Valid and current driver’s license requiredYes
Travel RequiredYes – 30% (service area high schools, conferences)
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Required EducationBachelor’s Degree in Education, Communication, Social Work, or a related field
Required ExperienceOne year of Education, Mentoring, Coaching, or related experience
Ellucian Banner, Student Information System/ERP, Salesforce, or willingness to learn
Preferred ExperienceOne year of supervising
Preferred EducationMaster’s Degree in education, social work, psychology, or related field
