Job SummaryThe University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a term‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a highly collegial, growing program committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in in‑person and online formats
- Conduct scholarly research leading to peer‑reviewed publications
- Engage in service to the program, department, university, and profession
- Participate in committees and collaborative academic initiatives
- Other duties as assigned.
- Earned terminal degree (Ph.D. or EdD) in Speech‑Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech‑Language‑Hearing Sciences, or a closely related field (ABD accepted; degree must be completed by hire date)
- ASHA certification in Speech‑Language Pathology
- Texas SLP licensure or eligibility for licensure
- Expertise or interest in bilingualism (Spanish/English)
- Interest in applied clinical or community‑based research
- Demonstrated or emerging excellence in teaching
- Scholarly agenda with potential for extramural funding
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
ClinicalPosition Requirements
Clinical positions require pre‑screening through our Occupational Health department, including a drug test. Employees are required to obtain annual influenza vaccines.
