Part‑time; up to 19.5 hours weekly, hours and schedule will vary. School days/hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 am‑4:00 pm.

Job SummaryUT Tyler University Academy at Tyler Campus is looking to build a pool of candidates for substitute teachers. As openings become available, applicants will be selected for interviews. This position will engage with students through the teaching of the assigned subject during a teacher’s absence. Candidates will utilize the teacher’s scheduled lesson plans to facilitate and monitor students during class.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks- Facilitate/monitor students during class and other school activities.
- Complete daily attendance records.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- General subject content knowledge.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Some college hours or associate degree preferred.
- Effectively manage classroom behavior, maintain order, and establish a learning environment that mirrors that of the regular teacher.
- The ability to quickly adapt to different grade levels, subject matter, and classroom routines.
- Effective communication with students, teachers, and administrative staff.
The employee will be on an as‑needed basis, not to exceed 19.5 hours per week and for the instructional days defined by the University Academy District Calendar.

Additional InformationThe retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
