Overview

Senior Roadway Project Engineer – Southwest Region. Location options include Austin, El Paso, Houston, McKinney, Round Rock, or Tyler, TX. The role requires extensive experience in roadway design and the ability to lead and collaborate with project teams.

What you’ll be doing
  • Familiarity with calculating plans quantities and engineering estimates, developing construction specifications, and coordinating with subconsultants
  • Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing EIs and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
  • Applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies or standards
  • Preparing and modifying reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for projects
  • Aspiring to work in a team environment and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients; work as part of a team to deliver transportation and civil design projects
  • Participating in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinating work to ensure best practices with all team members
  • Attending appropriate team meetings
  • Working on detailed engineering assignments including calculations and relatively standard work activities
  • Adjusting and correlating data, recognizing discrepancies in results
  • Identifying and analyzing problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
  • Applying standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
  • Understanding and adhering to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of projects
  • Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
What you need to have
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 10+ years relevant experience in roadway design
  • Must have proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules and budgets
  • PE is required
  • Experienced in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
  • Proficient with Open Roads Designer
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
