Transport Engineer Tech I/II – CPD (2601357)

Job Description

Design and field support work for roadway and bridge projects. Responsibilities are overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic design work and calculations.
  • Assist with field work using automated systems.
  • Prepare field notes.
  • Produce quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right‑of‑way maps.
  • Create roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
  • Use automated programs, interactive graphics, and the Design and Construction Information System.
  • Reproduce plans as needed.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Advanced Responsibilities (Tech II)
  • Assist in on‑the‑job training of less experienced technicians.
  • Perform advanced drafting and calculations and develop graphic presentations with distinctive design features.
  • Conduct intermediate design work.
  • Review entire sets of plans for format, drafting, and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Write general notes, specifications, and provisions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Tech I:
      No experience required.
    • Tech II: 2 years of drafting, design, and plan preparation (full‑time or equivalent part‑time). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Valid driver’s license; required to operate a state vehicle.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Sedentary work with intermittent lifting up to 10 lbs. and occasional carrying of files or small tools. Requires good hearing, speaking, and ability to express ideas verbally. The position is identified as physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical. Must pass a drug test for safety impact positions.

Salary Range
  • Tech I: $40,918 – $61,130 per year.
  • Tech II: $45,521 – $71,055 per year.
Schedule

Full‑time, day shift. 5% travel required. On‑site location flexibility.
