TxDOT's Tyler District is looking for a Transportation Engineers I, II or III in Tyler, TX! Come make a difference in our District Maintenance Office. You will be responsible for the design of routine maintenance and bridge preventive maintenance contracts along with in-field reviews of bridge repairs. The ideal candidates are self-motivated with the willingness to learn engineering software and a passion for maintenance.

Salary Ranges:

• Transportation Engineer I, B24, $65,104.00 - $ annually
• Transportation Engineer II, B25, $69,572.00 - $ annually
• Transportation Engineer III, B26, $76,530.00 - $ annually

Position Description

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.

Transportation Engineer I
- Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Transportation Engineer II
- Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Transportation Engineer III
- Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objective. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

• Transportation Engineer I:
• Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
• Assists in evaluating pavement products and pavement condition data.
• Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
• Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
• Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
• Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
• Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
• Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
• Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
• Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement condition
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Transportation Engineer II, all the above, and:
• Evaluates pavement products and pavement condition data.
• Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
• Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.
• Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
• Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting
• Transportation Engineer III all the above, and:
• Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
• Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
• Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
• Provides assistance in preparing reports on pavement conditions.
