Electrical Engineer - Early Career

Summary

The Shaw Group is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer to support the design and delivery of electrical systems for industrial and modular projects. This role works with experienced engineers, designers, project teams, fabrication personnel, construction teams, and vendors to develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical solutions. The position offers hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through fabrication, construction, commissioning, and startup support.

Responsibilities
  • Support electrical designs, calculations, specifications, datasheets, and technical deliverables under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assist with power-distribution, grounding, lighting, motor, cable, raceway, heat-tracing, and electrical-control system designs as assigned.
  • Prepare or review one-line diagrams, load lists, equipment schedules, cable schedules, layouts, wiring diagrams, and material requisitions.
  • Perform basic electrical calculations, including load flow, voltage drop, cable sizing, equipment sizing, and short-circuit or protective-device studies with supervision.
  • Review drawings, models, vendor documents, and engineering information for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, piping, civil/structural, instrumentation and controls, procurement, fabrication, construction, and project teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, technical discussions, interdisciplinary checks, and constructability reviews.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, client specifications, quality requirements, and safe-design practices.
  • Provide engineering support to fabrication facilities, construction sites, commissioning teams, and field personnel when required.
  • Help resolve technical issues through research, sound engineering judgment, root-cause analysis, and collaboration.
  • Manage assigned tasks, communicate progress and risks, andparticipatein training, mentoring, continuous improvement, and rotational assignments when available.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineeringor a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Zero to two years of relevant engineering experience; internships, co-ops, research, or project-team experience are preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of circuits, power systems, electrical machines, controls, instrumentation interfaces, and electrical safety.
  • Working knowledge of CAD or electrical design tools; experience with AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, Easy Power , or similar software is helpful.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new engineering systems and tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, technical-writing , communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability and willingness to visit fabrication shops, client facilities, or project sites and travel as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, or academic project experience related to industrial facilities, energy, petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, or modular construction.
  • Exposure to industrial power distribution, motor-control centers, switch gear, transformers, variable-frequency drives, grounding, or lighting systems.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code, IEEE standards, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Exposure to electrical analysis, system-modeling, relay-coordination, or arc-flash study software.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification or plans to pursue professional licensure.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequentlyor constantly to lift , carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
