Mechanical Engineer, Process Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists
The Shaw Group is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Engineer to support the engineering and delivery of industrial projects. This role works with experienced engineers, designers, project teams, fabrication personnel, and vendors to develop safe, practical, and cost-effective mechanical solutions. The position offers hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through fabrication, construction, and commissioning support.
Responsibilities- Support mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, datasheets, and technical deliverables under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Assist with equipment selection and evaluation of mechanical systems, including piping, pressure equipment, rotating equipment, and packaged systems.
- Review drawings, models, vendor documents, and engineering information for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
- Coordinate with process, piping, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, procurement, fabrication, construction, and project teams.
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, technical discussions, and interdisciplinary checks.
- Prepare calculations, reports, material requisitions, technical documentation, and responses to engineering questions.
- Apply applicable codes, standards, client specifications, quality requirements, and safe-design practices.
- Provide engineering support to fabrication facilities, construction sites, and field teams.
- Help resolve technical issues through research, sound engineering judgment, root-cause analysis, and collaboration.
- Manage assigned tasks and communicate progress, risks, and support needs to the responsible engineer or project lead.
- Participate in training, mentoring, continuous-improvement activities, and rotational or cross-functional assignments when available.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
- Zero to two years of relevant engineering experience; internships, co-ops, research, or project-team experience are preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials, and mechanical design.
- Working knowledge of CAD or engineering design tools; experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, or similar software is helpful.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new engineering systems and tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational,technical-writing, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability and willingness to visit fabrication shops, client facilities, or project sites and travel as business needs require.
- Internship, co-op, or academic project experience related to industrial facilities, energy, petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, or modular construction.
- Exposure to piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, or other process equipment.
- Familiarity with ASME, API, or other relevant industry codes and standards.
- Exposure tofinite-element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, or engineering calculation software.
- Engineer-in-Training certification and plans to pursue professional licensure.
- Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
- Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
