Position Summary

The Mechanical Project Manager (M9) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing mechanical projects from start to finish, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budgetobjectivesare met. This role emphasizes leadership, project execution, resource management, and technical oversight across all mechanical crews assigned to the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of assigned mechanical projects, including Superintendents (M8), Foremen (M7), Lead Mechanics (M6), Journeymen (M5),
  • Apprentices (M2–M4), and Helpers (M1)
  • Develop andmaintainproject schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation to meet project objectives
  • Ensure all work meets project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve mechanical work plans, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Conduct regular project progress meetings, audits, and performance evaluations for crews and supervisory staff
  • Mentor Superintendents and Foremen to improve leadership, technical skills, and safety compliance
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve technical or operational challenges
  • Monitor project safety performance and enforce all company, client, and regulatory safety policies
  • Lead pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and project-specific safety meetings
  • Oversee procurement, use, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials for project execution
  • Analyze project performance metrics and implement corrective measures to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-compliance issues and ensuretimelyresolution
  • Proactively pursue new business opportunities by developing relationships with prospective clients, industry partners, and general contractors, while strengthening and expanding existing customer relationships; lead the planning, coordination, and submission of bid proposals to secure new mechanical projects.
  • Perform other duties consistent with Mechanical Project Manager responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in mechanical trade project management, including prior roles as Superintendent (M8) or Foreman (M7)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple crews and project deliverables effectively
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, construction practices, and industry standards
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make independent project decisions whilemaintainingcompliance with company standards

Required Certifications and Training

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety
  • Jobsite-specific and company-required safety and project management training
  • Trade-specific certifications (e.g., rigging, welding, pressure systems) as required
  • Project management or leadership courses preferred

Tools & Equipment

  • Responsible for oversight of tools, equipment, and material use on assigned projects
  • Maintains minimal personal hand tools for demonstration or limited hands-on oversight
  • Specialty tools, power tools, testing equipment, and consumables provided and managed by the company

Experience

  • Typically 12+ years of mechanical trade experience, including supervisory and project management experience
  • Proven track recordof successfully managing medium to large-scale mechanical projects

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with frequent jobsite visits
  • Ability to traverse jobsite environments, including walking, climbing ladders, and navigating confined spaces
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions during site visits
  • Ability to wear required PPE when on-site, including hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and fall protection
  • Combination of office and industrial/commercial construction jobsites
  • Exposure to mechanical systems, construction hazards, and heavy equipment during site visits
  • Work hours may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel between project sites

Supervision

  • Reports to Mechanical Division Manager / Director (M10) or equivalent executive leadership
  • Directly supervises Superintendents (M8), Foremen (M7), Lead Mechanics (M6), Journeymen (M5), Apprentices (M2–M4), and Helpers (M1) assigned to projects

Safety Expectations

  • Serve as the project safety leader for assigned mechanical projects
  • Ensure all crewscomply with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
  • Lead incident investigations and enforce corrective actions
  • Mentor Superintendents and Foremen on safety leadership, compliance, and hazard prevention

Successful performance in this role supports advancement to Mechanical Division Manager / Director – M10, with responsibility for enterprise-level mechanical operations and strategic oversight of multiple projects and programs.
