Job Description
Position:
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse)
Support plasma center operations under guidance of the Center Manager and Center Physician. Responsibilities include determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. Proficiency with plasma collection regulations and environmental, health and safety (EHS) guidelines is required.
Key Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education and self‑exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of the Center Physician’s standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, following EHS guidance.
- Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program meeting state requirements.
- Current state license or certification:
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). - Current CPR and AED certification.
- State‑required IV therapy certification.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two (2) years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $24.32 – $33.44 (actual rate may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and location).
