:
Smith County Jail. This position is in a jail/correctional facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts, including holidays, may be required.
Job Summary
:
Competent Clinician. Experienced, knowledgeable, skilled, and competent clinician. Delivers care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patients, facility staff and other team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients.
- Identifies nursing diagnoses / patient care needs, individualizes care plan, and revises plan of care as needed.
- Documents patient's current health status and medical history.
- Completes and/or reviews Admission Data Record as defined by policy.
- Makes accurate and ongoing assessment of patient's status and responds appropriately.
- Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients; administers medications and treatments and delivers population‑specific competent nursing care in accordance with UTHSCT's policies, procedures, and standards.
- Administers medications according to policy and procedure, observes and documents patient's response to pertinent medications.
- Demonstrates accurate and timely documentation according to form guidelines.
- Performs direct patient care, utilizing established procedures, policies, and standards.
- Assists patients with concern and empathy; respects confidentiality and privacy and communicates with patients in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
- Assists in the orientation / training of new team members.
- Accurately transcribes physician orders according to policy and procedure.
- Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions related to their position.
- Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
- Two (2) years' experience as a registered nurse preferred.
- A combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in Texas.
- Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.
- Must possess and maintain current Satori Alternatives for Managing Aggression (SAMA) within thirty days of hire.
- Bilingual a plus. EMR experience.
- Advanced, specialized nursing skills as appropriate to the nature of medical activity.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of all protocols and procedures within the corrections environment.

Clinical positions may be required to complete a pre‑employment health screening, following a contingent job offer, to determine whether they possess the physical capabilities needed to safely fulfill the specific demands of the position. Additionally, clinical positions require compliance with the University's Vaccine‑Preventable Disease Policy.
