Merchandise Buyer for Green Goods (Landscape Plants)
Hughes is a growing company in Tyler, TX, looking to inspire and expand our customers’ outdoor spaces one plant and one project at a time. Our retail garden center offers a large selection of quality landscape plants and a full range of lawn and garden products and décor. We are looking for an experienced plant expert to join our team as a Buyer / Merchandiser for our live goods (landscape plants).
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about landscape plants, have retail garden center experience, have experience buying and merchandising landscape plant material, and be both a leader and team player. We are looking for the right person to join our team, work in our dynamic customer-focused environment, and grow with us.
- Develop, demonstrate, and be able to share a solid understanding of trees, shrubs, and other green goods, including knowledge of sun requirements and proper plant placements in order to thrive
- Grow our business by modeling our company mission of helping our customers be successful in their gardens
- Provide excellent customer service and work to create meaningful relationships with our customers
- Inquisitive and able to discern customers’ landscape style needs and goals
- Supervise the plant sales and maintenance team and ensure that plants are being fertilized, watered, and kept trimmed
- Be aware of seasonal trends and know when to ramp up and/or cut off purchasing
- Model and promote workplace safety
- Have flexible availability that meets the needs of retail store schedule requirements, including weekends and holidays
