About the RoleThe Field Technician works in a variety of work environments to examine utility poles, troubleshoot issues, and provide accurate reports back to the company. This role is crucial in supporting the infrastructure of utility services such as electricity and telecommunications. Field Technicians are responsible for performing a range of tasks to ensure the reliability and safety of utility pole networks.
Duties & Responsibilities- Identify and correctly record all different attachments (utility and telecom) on electric distribution poles
- Record span lengths and angle bearings between two structures
- Identify National Electric Safety Code (NESC) violations
- Identify appropriate electric conductor sizes
- Identify all appropriate equipment and attaching hardware on distribution poles
- Utilize an insulated, telescoping, fiberglass measuring stick to record the attachment height of any hardware/conductors installed on electric poles. (Contact to energized components will be made using the insulated stick)
- Read and interpret maps and construction prints to ensure accuracy, and identify discrepancies between the field construction and the design specs
- Upload pictures to the designated spaces for the design team in the office
- Ensure work is completed efficiently and to design specifications
- Follow safety protocols and procedures at all times
- Navigate independently to new locations provided by the design team
- Work independently or with a partner in the field and maintain streamlined communication with the field coordinators and with the office through detailed notes on the maps
- Ability to work independently in various weather conditions and field environments
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
- Willing to work extended hours, including weekends, and travel 100% of the time
- Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions for extended periods
- Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America
- High School diploma or GED
- Above all, a tenacious work ethic is a necessity
- Ability to pass a drug test, background check, and Motor Vehicle Record check
- Strong photography skills for field documentation
- Experience using compasses, range finders, and geographic data recording tools
- First Aid, AED, CPR Certification
- OSHA 10/30 Certification
- Defensive Driving Training
- Work is performed outdoors with exposure to weather including and not limited to excessive heat, excessive cold, and extreme weather conditions
- Requires standing and walking continuously throughout the day, covering
- 5-15 miles
- Frequent driving over long distances in varying weather conditions
- Must be able to meet the physical and cognitive requirements to operate a vehicle safely, including maintaining alertness and orientation while driving
- Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 50+ pounds on a regular basis
- Must be able to work under stressful conditions to meet deadlines and company needs
