Fiber Splicer

Responsibilities

• Fusion splice SM or MM outside plant loose tube, inside plant tight buffered, and ribbon fiber optic cable.
• Prep, dress, and store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications.
• Preparation of armored and non-armored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber and mid-sheath applications.
• Perform live fiber cut‑overs during maintenance hours.
• Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently.
• Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter, OTDR, VFL and Traffic Identifier.
• Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required.
• Perform other duties as required.

• 1‑3 years of fiber splicing and testing.
• Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and tools of the trade.
• Organized, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment and communicate professionally with co‑workers and customers.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Requires a mixture of day and night work.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Be available for 7‑day / 24‑hour stand‑by on‑call rotation as needed.
• Ability and willingness to work long and unpredictable hours if required, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders and operate a bucket truck is needed.
• Willingness to operate within a schedule that is subject to inclement weather conditions.

Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
