Transportation Coordinator

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Procurement and Transportation Services, the Transportation Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the College's fleet and transportation activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Fleet Management operations for the College, including prioritizing preventative maintenance, repair, and recommendation of replacement of College-issued vehicles.
  • Service, clean, and refuel fleet vehicles, including four (4) 15-passenger buses, to ensure proper maintenance and fluid service.
  • Service and maintain all types of campus vehicles, including trailers, all-terrain vehicles and golf carts, assigned to Campus Police, Facilities & Construction, OTS, Band, Athletics, CSLI, RLH, Rec Sports, Administration, and TJC North
  • Assist in developing, managing, and overseeing all policies and procedures related to motor vehicle operations (including recurring verification of driver licensing, driver eligibility, DOT certification, driver training and endorsements).
  • Assist with developing, managing, and overseeing all policies and procedures related to fleet operations.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances (including DOT regulations) affecting transportation and fleet operations.
  • Assist in identifying, recommending, and implementing best practices for fleet and transportation operations.
  • Monitor fleet vehicle requests and schedule vehicles for employee use. Ensure vehicles are available, clean, operational, and ready for College use.
  • Schedule the Part-Time Transportation Drivers when required
  • Assist in maintaining the College fleet leasing program.
  • Assist in managing the College WEX fleet fuel program, including updating records and running reports within the WEX online system.
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from faculty and staff, clearly and effectively, whether in-person, by phone, or via email.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving freight from the various parcel companies, sorting and evaluating freight, and transferring freight to the various mailrooms and locations of Tyler Junior College.
  • Assist with sorting incoming mail/outgoing mail for campus delivery.
  • Assist in delivering and picking up campus mail.

Competencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a good working knowledge of motor vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and golf carts.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person-to-person situations and general telephone assistance.
  • Must be a versatile individual with the ability to coordinate and work with others, meet deadlines, and adjust to a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule, if necessary.
  • Must have knowledge and skill to operate a personal computer, Excel & Word, and general office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds, bend, and squat as a regular working condition
  • Must be able to be independent, respect confidentiality, and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Working Hours:

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday. Work outside of normal working hours may be required. All weather conditions. Constant Physical Activity:

Lifting up to (~25 lbs.), Overhead Work, Sitting Occasional Physical Activity:

Travel Required: Yes – Moderate. May travel to other campuses and local car dealerships/repair shops. If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Experience

  • Experience coordinating and scheduling the work of others is required.
  • A valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience working with transportation and/or fleet operations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Direct supervisory experience.
