Staff Accountant

Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting and finance team in Tysons, Virginia. This role is responsible for compiling, consolidating, and analyzing accounting and financial information used to prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements.

The Staff Accountant will perform general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial analysis, reporting, and accounting research with limited supervision. The position will also help maintain accurate process documentation, support accounting system and process improvements, and assist management with special projects and analyses.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working with financial data, Excel, and accounting systems. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

• Prepare journal entries, reconcile sub-ledgers, and complete financial data extracts for reporting and distribution.
• Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting

• Reconcile and adjust general ledger accounts and bank statements, ensuring transactions are accurate, complete, and processed timely.
• Research discrepancies, identify accounting inconsistencies, and communicate issues and recommended solutions to management.
• Perform moderately complex accounting and financial analyses to support business and management decisions.
• Respond to accounting and financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain complete, current, and accessible accounting documentation, process flows, and supporting schedules.
• Assist with testing and implementation of changes to accounting processes and functions resulting from changes in accounting standards, regulations, or business requirements.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend technology or system enhancements that increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Serve as a point of contact for accounts payable and/or accounts receivable transactions, as assigned.
• Participate in moderately complex accounting projects and serve as a team member on larger, more complex initiatives.
• Support business continuity activities and ensure accounting processes can be maintained during operational disruptions.
• Perform additional accounting duties and special projects as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with data queries;

• Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and recommend solutions.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while effectively collaborating with team members and business partners.
• Experience with AI tools and technologies is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and timeliness.

The ideal candidate will be a 2-4 year accounting professional with hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and data analysis. Candidates who combine traditional accounting knowledge with strong Excel, data/query, and technology skills will be particularly well suited for this position.
