LocationTysons, VA (3 days’ on-site, M-W-F)
OverviewWe are seeking a motivated Junior Systems Engineer to join a collaborative, mission-driven team supporting cloud modernization efforts for DoD customers in Tysons, VA (hybrid, onsite Monday/Wednesday/Friday). In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Cybersecurity professionals to help design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure cloud environments. You’ll contribute to troubleshooting complex technical issues, building automation to streamline operations, and supporting infrastructure built on core AWS services.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is eager to grow their hands‑on experience with cloud technologies, infrastructure as code, and modern Dev Ops practices.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, a passion for continuous learning, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, agile environment. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and apply emerging technologies, document best practices, and help drive efficiency across systems and processes. Candidates should have a relevant technical degree, experience with AWS and scripting, and either hold or be willing to quickly obtain Security+ and AWS certifications.
This role offers a clear path for growth while contributing to impactful, high‑visibility work supporting national security initiatives.
- Collaborate with a large team of Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Cybersecurity Professionals to manage and modernize workloads in the cloud-servicing DoD customers.
- Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot complex problems and design and implement solutions.
- Assist the team to solve complex technical problems and build automations to eliminate mundane tasks.
- Research and learn the latest available technologies to continuously find more efficient solutions to common problems.
- Document any developed processes and procedures.
- Candidate must be able to meet requirements to attain and maintain a DLA Public Trust.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
- Ability to work and produce results in an agile and fast‑paced environment with dynamic deadlines.
- Working experience with core AWS Services (e.g., EC2, RDS, EFS, S3, Security Groups).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Proficiency with Sys Admin scripting languages (Shell, Power Shell, JavaScript).
- Experience automating tasks either in a cloud or on‑premise environment.
- Current CompTIA Security+ Certification or ability to obtain it in the first 60 days.
- Current AWS Certification or ability to obtain it in the first 90 days.
- Certifications will be paid for or reimbursed if you do not currently have them.
- AWS Associate, Specialty, or Pro-Level Certification.
- Familiarity with Python.
- Familiarity with JSON or YAML object writing.
- Understanding of orchestration tools (Jenkins, Git Lab, Ansible, or AWS SSM preferred).
- Familiarity with containerization in the cloud (EKS, ECS, Fargate).
- Familiarity with common protocols including but not limited to: DNS, SMTP, HTTP(S), SFTP, SCP.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and/or other LDAP based solutions.
- RHEL administration experience.
- Windows administration experience.
