Quality Engineer – Platform & Infrastructure
POSITION OVERVIEW
Quality Engineers on the Platform & Infrastructure team are responsible for validating the performance, reliability, and functionality of the backend services and applications that power ’s ecosystem. This role focuses on cloud‑based services, APIs, data flows, and platform applications that interact with connected devices.
This position is well‑suited for new graduates or early‑career Quality Engineers who are self‑starters, demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, and are eager to grow their technical skills. Successful candidates are strong problem solvers who are comfortable working with incomplete information, learning complex distributed systems, and proactively identifying risk. You will be expected not only to execute tests, but to think critically about system behavior and drive quality improvements across backend platforms.
WHATSUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE
- You take ownership of assigned services, features, or platform components and proactively identify quality risks
- You independently investigate backend issues, analyze system behavior, and propose next steps before escalating
- You produce clear, actionable test documentation and bug reports focused on backend and service‑level failures
- You continuously expand your technical understanding of platform architecture, service interactions, and data flow
- You collaborate effectively with engineering, product, Dev Ops, and other QA teams to drive platform quality forward
- Develop a strong understanding of backend service functionality, platform architecture, and end‑to‑end data flow
- Write, execute, and maintain test plans, test cases, and supporting documentation for platform and infrastructure components
- Perform manual end‑to‑end testing across backend services, APIs, databases, and supporting infrastructure
- Validate system interactions between connected devices and backend services
- Identify, log, track, and follow defects through resolution
- Write high‑quality, detailed, and reproducible bug reports
- Analyze logs, metrics, traces, and system data to troubleshoot issues and identify root causes
- Set up, configure, and maintain test environments and service configurations
- Triage urgent or high‑impact platform issues, prioritize appropriately, and propose solutions
- Configure, maintain, and monitor test automation setups where applicable (e.g., API or service‑level tests)
- Assess risk and determine appropriate test strategy based on system complexity, scale, and impact
- Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, Dev Ops, and other engineering teams
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve test coverage, tooling, and quality processes
- Other duties as assigned
- 0–3 years of Quality Assurance or related technical experience
- B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Industrial/Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting
- Demonstrated technical aptitude and ability to learn complex backend systems quickly
- Ability to reason about distributed systems, APIs, and data flows
- Comfort working with incomplete information and ambiguous problems
- Strong attention to detail and a process‑oriented mindset
- Self‑motivated with a demonstrated sense of ownership and accountability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively
- Exposure to testing RESTful APIs or backend services
- Experience analyzing logs, metrics, or monitoring data
- Exposure to cloud platforms, microservices, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or automated test execution
