Location: Cootham

We are delighted to announce two exciting opportunities for Prep School Supervisors to join our Junior Prep School team, helping to support and care for our pupils throughout the school day during key supervision periods. Hurstpierpoint College is one of Sussex's leading independent schools, comprising a Senior School, Senior Prep School and Junior Prep School with around 1,300 pupils in total.

It is a stimulating and friendly place to work, with a strong sense of community across the whole College. These roles are responsible for supervising Prep School children (Reception to year
8) during lunchtime, afternoon break and, where required, after-school activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure good order and discipline are maintained during lunchtime and afternoon supervision periods, in line with the College's behaviour policy, intervening when necessary and reporting any concerns to the Head of the Junior Prep School.
  • Supervise children in the playground, on the astroturf and other designated areas, encouraging participation in play and ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Set up and oversee games and activities where appropriate, ensuring equipment is safely stored afterwards.
  • Supervise lunchtimes from 11:45am-1:00pm.
  • Support pupils during afternoon break supervision (1:55pm-2:25pm).
  • Support the supervision of pupils during Off Games on Wednesdays and Thursdays (1:55pm-4:30pm), providing activities and pastoral care for students who are not taking part in sporting activities.
  • Where possible, supervise pupils attending the College's After School Activities, including:
    Session 1: 4:30pm-5:15pm;
    Session 2: 5:10pm-6:00pm.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to sick or injured children, liaising with the School Office and, where necessary, the College Medical Centre, reporting any serious incidents promptly.
  • Respond effectively during emergency situations, including fire drills.
  • Listen attentively to children and support them in resolving any issues or concerns.
  • Be vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting any safeguarding or welfare concerns relating to individual children or groups of children.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the College's policies relating to behaviour, safeguarding, health and safety, applying these consistently.
  • Promote a positive, caring and inclusive environment, encouraging excellent behaviour while ensuring children enjoy their breaks.
  • Communicate confidently and professionally with pupils, colleagues and parents where appropriate.
  • Work flexibly as part of a team or independently and undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of the Junior Prep School or College management.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions.

Schedule
  • Monday to Friday: 11:45am-1:00pm (lunchtime supervision)
  • Afternoon break supervision: 1:55pm-2:25pm
  • Off Games supervision on Wednesdays and Thursdays: 1:55pm-4:30pm
  • Homework Club supervision – Session 1: 4:30pm-5:15pm;
    Session 2: 5:10pm-6:00pm
