Laboratory Manager- Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Facility

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic team player with strong technical expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry and experience of managing a Facility or Laboratory. You will work within a small, friendly team in the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (C&MS) Facility, in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The C&MS Facility is an EPSRC Badged Small Facility, which includes the Open Access Service and Approved Power User instruments.

It provides the core analytical support, training and essential data to research staff and students in the School, across the Faculty and the University and also to external research collaborators and commercial customers.

We Are Looking For a Laboratory Manager/ Technical Expert To Perform And Supervises a Range Of Complex Work Activities Including Overseeing And Day-today Management Of The Delivery Of The Open Access Service And Support Of Other Instrumentation Within The Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry Facility. The Work Involves

• the application of highly specialised technical skills, to maintain and troubleshoot a portfolio of analytical instruments (LC-MS, SFC-MS, GC-MS)
• managing and delivering short and medium-term projects and work assignments,
• managing technical practices and service provisions,
• providing specialist advice, guidance and recommendations to staff and students on a range of analytical LC-MS, SFC-MS, GC-MS instruments,
• Ensuring operational excellence and consistency of practice, especially in Health and Safety, in line with university strategic priorities

The Open Access Service, delivered over 13,000 sample analyses in the last financial year. In addition, with recent investments and funding successes in the School, especially in the Organic & Biological Chemistry research area, this activity is expected to grow further – with 20 PhD students starting in this section in September.
