Job Summary

Mendocino‑Lake Community College District is hiring a Short‑Term, Non‑Continuing Program Assistant for the Art Gallery. This temporary position will work approximately 10 hours per week, with possible weekend or evening hours. The role reports to the appropriate manager and supports the Gallery’s mission of showcasing local artists and engaging the community.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate program activities with the program manager, including project planning and logistics.
  • Assist with dissemination of program information and support services.
  • Process budgetary transactions such as purchase orders, requisitions, budget transfers, and PAFs.
  • Serve as a customer‑service contact, greeting students and community members.
  • Provide general administrative support: filing, records retention, mail management, and data entry/reporting.
  • Help organize events, including special projects, promotional events, and presentations.
  • Support the manager in maintaining a positive and healthy environment for stakeholders.
  • Assist with audits, promotional events, presentation development, and other special projects.
Program Duties (Gallery specific)
  • Assist the Art Gallery Director in setting up and dismantling exhibits.
  • Staff the Gallery during open hours.
  • Take notes during gallery advisory meetings.
  • Assist with advertising and promotion.
Working Conditions

Office environment with occasional interruptions; physical tasks include sitting, reaching, bending, walking, standing for long periods, and light lifting up to 25 lbs. Repetitive computer or filing motions may occur. Occasional outdoor exposure during events.

Requirements
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative or office environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
    Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Proficiency with administrative/programmatic best practices and overview of fiscal practices.
  • Computers and software application skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, scheduling).
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Follow verbal and written directions; complete assigned tasks independently or in groups.
  • Abide by district policies and procedures; lift up to 25 lbs.
Salary and Benefits

Hourly rate of $20.34 for up to 10 hours per week. The position qualifies for the College’s Bronze level benefit plan at the employee’s cost. Paid time off: 40 hours of sick leave per fiscal year. The role may be eligible for CalPERS retirement if hours meet required thresholds.
