Overview

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is accepting applications for temporary, non-continuing Tutor positions. Candidates should be industry or academic professionals who are interested in sharing expertise with our diverse student population and who support our District Mission, Goals, and Values.

Responsibilities
  • Provides tutoring services to students based on their education and professional experience.
  • Assists college students with academic success strategies.
  • Supports students (tutees) in becoming independent learners, persisting in college, and reaching their goals.
  • Provides one‑on‑one or group tutoring in courses aligned with the tutor’s area of expertise.
  • Clarsifies and reviews concepts taught in class, explains processes, and helps students solve specific problems.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and the Program Director to support professional development.
Qualifications
  • Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring, including a Live Scan background check and completion of a TB test.
  • Must possess sufficient, appropriate subject matter expertise that pertains to the academic area.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent required; an Associate’s degree preferred.
Salary & Benefits

Professional Expert, temporary, hourly position: 4–10 hours per week, $20.00–$22.00 per hour. The position is authorized under Ed Code 88003 for employees working less than 75% of a school year, up to 180 days.

Selection Procedure

A search committee will review applications and invite selected candidates for an interview. A written performance exercise or presentation may be part of the interview. Final notifications will be via email.

Conditions of Employment (Prior to Beginning Employment)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Fingerprinting through DOJ and FBI and background clearance; TB test required once hired and every four years thereafter.
  • Completion of required District trainings within six months of employment, such as Sexual Harassment Prevention.
