Short‑Term Non‑Continuing Associate Teacher I – IV
We are hiring for a temporary, non‑continuing Associate Teacher position (levels I to IV) in the Child Development Center at the Mendocino‑Lake Community College District. The position is open until filled.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Center Director and the Child Development Specialist, the Associate Teacher will support the daily activities of children enrolled in the Center. This role involves supervising, training, and leading educational activities for children while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Representative Duties- Supervise children during classroom activities.
- Apply and follow proper safety and emergency procedures.
- Assist in the supervision and training of Assistant Teachers, Child Development Center students, Associate Teachers I–III, parents, and volunteers.
- Prepare curriculum materials as needed.
- Conduct both small and large group activities.
- Implement plans that consider each child’s individual needs.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Maintain compliance with the Center’s rules and policies.
- Share responsibility for non‑instructional tasks.
- Participate in staff and team meetings and attend in‑service training as scheduled.
- Perform general cleanup duties to straighten and organize the Center.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude with children, staff, and parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate Teacher IV: Supervises children of the center and provides work direction and feedback to Associate Teachers I–III, Assistant Teachers, Center volunteers, and parents.
Associate Teacher III: Provides work direction to Associate Teachers I–II, Assistant Teachers, Center volunteers, and parents. No direct supervision exercised.
Associate Teacher II: Provides work direction to Associate Teacher I, Assistant Teachers, Center volunteers, and parents. No direct supervision exercised.
Associate Teacher I: May provide work direction to Assistant Teachers, Center volunteers, and parents. No direct supervision exercised.
Working Conditions- Work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor activities.
- Potential exposure to disease, noise, and close interactions with children.
- Might be required to physically lift a child up to 50 lbs.
- Practice safe handling and mobility for child supervision.
- Meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring, including background checks.
- Successfully complete a Physician’s Report and TB clearance.
- Required CPR and First Aid certification (within one year of hire).
- Level‑specific experience:
- Associate Teacher IV – at least three years of experience.
- Associate Teacher III – at least two years of experience.
- Associate Teacher II – at least one year of experience.
- Associate Teacher I – no teaching experience required; must hold a High School Diploma or GED and complete 12 core CDV units.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; 12 core CDV units completed.
- Hourly rate: $19.45 – $22.12 (salary schedule available through district website).
- Hours:
10 hours per week, not to exceed 20–40 hours per week. - Bronze level benefit plan at employee cost only.
- 40 hours of paid sick leave per fiscal year.
- Possible eligibility for CalPERS retirement based on hours worked.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently change physical positions; walk, stand, or sit for long periods.
- Stoop, bend, twist, and reach as required.
- Hear and see a child in need of assistance.
