Part‑time, Temporary Faculty – Chemistry at Mendocino College (Ukiah, CA). The role focuses on supporting student success through instruction, classroom preparation, and collaboration with faculty and staff.
Assignment & SalaryAssignments are made on a part‑time, hourly contract basis. A part‑time faculty assignment may not exceed 67% of an annual full‑time assignment. Hourly rate is dependent on qualifications: $69.36–$96.69. Compensation is paid over the duration of the semester.
Responsibilities- Teach the full range of courses offered in the Chemistry discipline.
- Conduct classes and finals as scheduled.
- Prepare classroom presentations, student activities, and assignments.
- Teach class hours and evaluate students’ performance using quizzes, exams, projects, comprehensive finals, and other appropriate assessments.
- Teach courses in accordance with the catalog description, course outline, and schedule.
- Prepare a syllabus for each course and distribute it to students at the first class meeting or electronically.
- Report on time and prepared for classes; post and maintain student contact hours.
- Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and teaching practices; and submit accurate and timely student reports.
Areas of teaching interest include, but are not limited to:
Introduction to Chemistry (CHM‑200), Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (CHM‑202), General Chemistry (CHM‑250, 251), and Organic Chemistry (CHM‑255, 256). Additional classes may be listed in the Mendocino College Catalog.
Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry.
- OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry plus a Master’s in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Geochemistry (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of current theories of chemistry and related teaching practices; familiarity with community college mission.
- Ability to instruct assigned courses using a variety of techniques, evaluate and develop curriculum, assess student progress, maintain records, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to teach at variable locations and hours, including evenings, weekends, and online.
- Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; completion of a Live Scan background check and TB test required.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
