Part-Time Faculty - English

Position Overview

Mendocino College is accepting applications for part‑time temporary faculty in the English discipline. Candidates must maintain a California mailing address in order to comply with the collective bargaining agreement.

Assignments are made on a part‑time hourly contract basis, with a maximum of 67 % of a full‑time workload. Hourly pay ranges from $69.36 to $96.69, depending on qualifications. Compensation is paid through the semester.

• Possible eligibility for CalSTRS retirement.

• Instruct the full range of courses offered in the discipline.
• Conduct classes and finals as scheduled.
• Prepare classroom presentations, student activities, and assignments.
• Teach hours, evaluate student performance based on quizzes, exams, projects and other assessments.
• Teach courses in accordance with the catalog description, course outline and class schedule.
• Prepare and distribute a syllabus for each course before the first class meeting.
• Report to the department on time and prepared for classes, maintaining student contact hours.
• Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and teaching practices; prepare and submit accurate and timely student reports.

Areas of teaching interest include, but are not limited to: ENG‑200, ENG‑65, ENG‑560, and other courses listed in the college catalog.

• Minimum qualifications for the discipline as defined by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
• Equivalency and state‑mandated minimum qualifications must be met and documented.
• Sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community‑college students.
• Human Resources hiring guidelines: background check and tuberculosis test.
• Online teaching experience.
• Current theoretical knowledge of English and related teaching practices, familiarity with the community‑college mission.
• Ability to instruct using a variety of techniques, evaluate and develop curriculum, maintain records, communicate effectively, collaborate with colleagues and teach at variable locations and times, including evenings, weekends and online.

• Tuberculosis test upon hiring and every four years thereafter.
• Completion of required district trainings within six months of employment.
