ABOUT COLD CREEK COMPOST

Cold Creek Compost has been producing premium organic compost and soil amendments in Ukiah, CA since 1995. Our nutrient-dense finished compost and specialty planter mixes serve growers, vineyard managers, landscape professionals, and nurseries across Northern California. As we grow our outbound sales efforts, we’re looking for a motivated sales professional to help us expand our reach and build lasting customer relationships across our territory.

THE ROLE

This is a full-time outbound sales position focused on moving our finished compost and premium blended mixes. You’ll build a pipeline of new accounts and manage existing relationships across Mendocino, Sonoma, and Central Valley markets.

You’ll be selling on value: agronomic performance, nutrient density, and consistency that commodity compost can’t match. The right candidate knows how to have that conversation with growers and buyers accustomed to cheaper or even free alternatives.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Prospect and develop new accounts across the territory — landscape supply dealers, vineyard management companies, wholesale nurseries, agricultural growers, and bulk soil producers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with purchasing decision-makers in the agricultural and horticultural industries
  • Educate customers on the agronomic value of premium compost vs. lower-cost alternatives; position our products based on ROI and performance, not price
  • Represent Cold Creek at trade shows, industry field days, and regional ag events
  • Manage your pipeline and provide regular territory updates to management; track account activity as the role scales
  • Coordinate with our operations team to ensure product availability and reliable delivery for your accounts
WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

  • Outside sales experience (2+ years) — ag inputs, fertilizers, crop nutrition, farm equipment, landscape supply, pest management, or a closely related field
  • Established industry relationships — growers, vineyard managers, landscape contractors, or nursery buyers in Nor Cal — you don’t need compost experience, but you need to know the people who buy it
  • Consultative selling ability — comfortable discussing agronomics, soil health, and ROI with knowledgeable buyers; not a price-order taker
  • Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Self-directed territory management — able to plan your own schedule and activity with minimal day‑to‑day supervision but also work with a team to close sales

Preferred (not required):

  • Experience selling soil amendments, compost, fertilizers, or other crop inputs directly
  • Bilingual English/Spanish — a significant advantage in CA vineyard and grower markets
  • Background in soil science, agronomy, or agricultural sciences
  • Familiarity with organic certification, sustainable agriculture, or regenerative farming practices
COMPENSATION
  • Base salary: $42,000–$48,000/year
  • Commission: 20% on net product sales made to new customers for first 12 months, paid quarterly
  • Target Total Comp: $80,000–$120,000 at target
