About This Role

Robinson Brothers Construction, LLC is seeking skilled Telecom/Underground Utilities Heavy Equipment Operators to join our traveling crew. Substantial projects span the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast, encompassing the western states.

Long‑Line Work – Work is currently in Ukiah, California, with on‑site presence 4 days a week for 10‑hour days.

Travel Position – Major Projects Division. Travel to various job sites across multiple states is expected and required.

What You’ll Do

The TRAVELING Underground Utility Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cable plows, backhoe, mini excavator, skid steer, rock saw, and other utility construction equipment to install, repair, and maintain underground utilities. The operator also safely transports materials and equipment.

  • Operate all heavy machinery safely.
  • Dig trenches, back‑fill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Transport materials and equipment.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials as needed.
  • Follow all on‑site safety procedures.
  • Ensure contents and equipment are properly secured during transportation.
  • Comply with all DOT regulations and rules.
  • Perform daily vehicle pre‑trip inspections and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
  • Travel is a must.
Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Valid CDL Class A (not required, but premium pay if held or obtained).
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Clean driving record (no more than 2 tickets in the last 5 years).
  • Strong focus on quality and safety.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Willingness to perform all aspects of the job, including hand‑digging trenches if machinery cannot reach specific areas.
  • Travel is required.
Work Environment

This is a full‑time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. The role operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The work environment varies throughout the day, including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings.

Potential exposure to natural gas, risk of electrical shock, and moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to stand for extended periods (up to 12 hours), tolerate extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, and repeatedly lift 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation Range

USD $25.00 / Hr. – $38.50 / Hr., depending on experience and qualifications. Pay is based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee, in accordance with California’s pay transparency requirements.
