Key Job Duties And Responsibilities

Employee is required to direct, administer and record the care given to residents in this facility. The Charge Nurse reports to the Director of Nursing.

  • Communicate with family members regarding the progress of the resident.
  • Assist visiting physicians in rounds.
  • Draw blood and obtain fluids to submit for lab work.
  • Record and monitor all progress of residents and communicate with physicians according to facility policies. Assist in dining area and in feeding.
  • Monitor work of other nursing staff in unit to ensure thoroughness and assist with tasks as needed.
  • Use telephones to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for doctor appointments, and contact families.
  • Make rounds to ensure cleanliness and proper care to residents.
  • Coordinate care of residents in accordance with their care plans.
  • Effectively manage all nursing staff assigned to unit.
  • Complete various reports as needed.
  • Monitor personal and staff compliance with all State and federal requirements including blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
  • Monitor personal and staff compliance with residents’ rights.
  • Assure that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules.
  • Replace nursing staff that call in sick with additional staff. Provide nursing services when sufficient staff cannot be attained.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular worksite attendance.
  • Must have a valid Kansas nursing license that is in good standing with the State.
  • Must have basic computer skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Employee is required to use a transfer/gait belt or to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to assist residents when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds.
  • This is a supervisory position. Employee is required to handle employees in a manner that assists them in their ability to function effectively.
  • Employee may be asked to perform other duties not listed above. Such duties will be within the scope of the employee’s training and ability.
