The Controls Deployment and Service team is looking for exceptional individuals to join our organization as a Controls Manager, responsible for the building management systems and electrical power monitoring system (BMS/EPMS) deployment and service within Amazon data centers. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of highly technically skilled individuals. The candidate will possess industrial Controls System experience, project management, mechanical, electrical or technology background that enables them to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Key job responsibilities- Manage onsite Controls Engineering team in Oregon (US West region).
- Travel up to 25% domestically across US West data center sites.
- Implement and track team goals, report the status of ongoing projects upwards.
- Participate in the interview process.
- Develop launch plans for new hires and identify team needs.
- Oversee the deployment, programming, and troubleshooting of BMS/EPMS for new builds and retrofits.
- Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
- Provide technical guidance to the Controls and partner teams as necessary.
The team is composed of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Collaboration occurs across AWS to aid in delivering the highest safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. BasicQualifications
- 3+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science plus 8+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 12+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
- 4+ years of experience in controls management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- 3+ years of experience hiring, promoting, coaching, and developing teams of technical professionals.
- 6+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
- 6+ years directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.
- 8+ years of Project Management and Vendor Management experience.
- 3+ years of experience in data center system‑level architecture and electrical engineering principles.
- 3+ years of experience in data center system‑level architecture and mechanical engineering principles.
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
