Key Job Responsibilities

The Commissioning Engineer (CxE) provides testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure. They review design documents, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and manage third‑party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre‑functional, functional, and integrated systems testing. They take ownership of project successes by diving deep to resolve technical issues and having a bias for action to address ever changing schedule and coordination demands onsite.

They communicate lessons learned and continuously collaborate on program improvements.

The CxE provides multi‑discipline input into scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects. They review component submittal packages, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), perform system level and integrated system testing, and continuously audit activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. They are responsible for comprehensive weekly reporting of status of all ongoing projects and lessons learned to continually improve the quality of the program.

This position includes coverage of multiple inflight projects and timelines.

A day in the life:
The CxE works across AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure each issue has a clear path to resolution. They manage the project commissioning vendor whose primary scope is to identify issues, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document findings. If project turnover is at risk, the CxE escalates to appropriate stakeholders.

Upon completion, the CxE communicates lessons learned to help peers and participates in initiatives that drive improvement to the commissioning program.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
