Electrical Mechanic B

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, performing a variety of duties in maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Work at following and promote company safety rules and policies and follow accepted safe work practices.
• Safely operate forklifts to move equipment and materials to and from the production areas, scales, warehouse and etc.
• Safely operate the man-lift and observe weight and height limits.
• Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as extruders, control cabinets, electrical motors and programmable controllers.
• Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment.
• Repair or replace faulty PLCs, DC and AC drives.
• Push buttons and press keys on programmable controllers to program automated machinery, test for malfunctions and verify repairs.
• Plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in building.
• Design and draw electrical schematics and purchase parts needed to build and install electrical control panels for equipment.
• Replace faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, motors and position sensing devices.
• Use and program PLC and automated controllers.
• Operate voltage testing equipment to test device performance.
• Set up and operate drill press, hydraulic press, and cut‑off saw; use various other hand and shop tools to make and repair parts and equipment.
• Fabricate new equipment or modify existing equipment to meet production requirements.
• Apply mechanical troubleshooting skills to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform proper repairs.
• Perform electrical preventative maintenance on extrusion equipment and related machinery as needed.
• Assist the production department with basic extrusion process and PVC pipe manufacture.
• Supply own hand tools.
• Communicate effectively with employees and operators to determine repair problems.
• Assist other employees when needed and work successfully in a self‑managed work team.
• Demonstrate self‑motivation and perform duties with little direct supervision.
• Attend required training sessions and wear required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety gear.
• Show willingness to learn new tasks, take on responsibilities, and be on call as needed.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1–3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding knowledge.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics.
• Experience with PLC programming and automated controllers.
• Proficiency with voltage testing equipment.
• Basic computer skills and keyboarding.
• Reading and writing routine reports and correspondence.
• Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages in metric system.
• Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and make timely decisions in stressful environments.

Ability to stand, walk, reach, and lift frequently up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights up to 50 feet. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; frequent talking and hearing required. Vision requirements include distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed at a manufacturing facility with moving mechanical and hydraulic equipment. Employees may work outdoors, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level is usually loud.
