Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for HVAC Direct Digital Controls design, development and integration of all hardware drawings and software components to produce fully functional building automation systems for assigned projects.
Position Details Hardware Design- Review plans, specifications and sales proposals to prepare engineering plans.
- Generate CAD control drawings and project submittal drawings as required.
- Select products, controllers and end devices needed to perform required control sequences.
- Collaborate with other Engineers (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) and contractors during the design phase.
- Utilize and develop CAD tools used in the system engineering process.
- Update hardware design packages during the contract and as projects change.
- Support the Software Specialist and Field Technicians with generation of custom control programming and databases.
- Assist in design, programming, debugging, simulation, configuration and testing of control system software.
- Update software packages with approved input from project engineers during the contract and at project completion.
- Design, develop and verify graphic files according to project requirements.
- Follow up to ensure graphics are correct and approved modifications are implemented.
- Design and complete LAN/WAN configuration including Bac Net integration and other functional requirements for complete system integration.
- Apply open‑protocol control products and solutions for multi‑vendor HVAC control.
- Perform all work in accordance with contract documents and company standards.
- Meet project schedules and facilitate others to meet their schedules.
- Develop procedures and checklists for specific engineering tasks to maintain consistency and completeness.
- Keep Project Engineer informed of questions, progress, RFIs, non‑standard product requirements, and schedule‑impacting issues.
- Initiate follow‑up to secure needed responses promptly.
- Prepare and present work in a clear manner for intended audiences.
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in DDC controls or building automation design.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, sequence of operations, product literature, programming manuals and specifications.
- Knowledge of the latest versions of AutoCAD and MS Visio.
- Knowledge of building mechanical and electrical equipment functions, HVAC control applications, hardware and software products.
- Knowledge of commonly used networks and network topologies.
- Familiarity with NEC code for Class 2 wiring.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel to job sites to assist in the work and understand control system applications.

Final pay is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and market data. In California, pay ranges from $ to $ yearly plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
