JobPurpose
The Pro Technician Associate role is a one-of-a-kind and dynamic entry-level position that acts as a catalyst role to becoming an experienced technician. It stands out in its duty to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the location's equipment yard, while also conducting basic maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure operational readiness. Working side by side with certified technicians, you will receive training and development to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems, perform basic repairs, recondition and service equipment and components.
The Pro Technician Associate role is a stepping stone to more advanced positions within the company. It offers the opportunity to grow technical skills while supporting the yard, mechanic, and technician operations, paving the way for a rewarding career in the rental equipment industry.
What you will do...Preventative Maintenance & Inspections
- Perform routine PM checks on heavy equipment to ensure rental readiness.
- Conduct frequent visual inspections of engines, belts, and hoses.
- Monitor/change hydraulic fluid, engine oil, and fuel filters under supervision.
- Inspect/replace air filters; replace oil/fuel filters per OEM recommendations.
- Drain water separators to avoid moisture damage.
- Flush cooling systems periodically to prevent corrosion/overheating.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
- Identify proper fluids and filters per OEM recommendation.
Equipment & Yard Operations
- Clean, maintain, and organize equipment and machinery in the yard.
- Assist loading/unloading equipment for customers and internal transport.
- Support the Yard Technician team with yard operations as needed.
- Grease moving parts (arms, joints, pivot points) on aerial equipment.
- Check tire pressure, tread condition, and wheels for damage.
- Check platform/ground controls, safety alarms, and emergency stop buttons.
- Inspect batteries for charging; clean terminals and maintain water levels.
- Inspect hoses, pumps, valves, and cylinders for leaks.
Basic Electrical & Safety Tasks
- Inspect/clean battery terminals; test voltage and load capacity.
- Verify proper battery mounting and secure harness routing.
- Inspect connectors/plugs for damage or loose wires.
- Test headlights, tail lights, brake lights, back-up alarm, and indicators.
- Inspect fuse box; test power supply and replace blown fuses.
- Check alternator belt tension/output; test charging system circuits.
- Inspect/test sensors and control modules.
- Read basic electrical schematics; use a multimeter for basic checks.
- Perform lockout/tagout; identify proper PPE for tasks.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols during all maintenance tasks.
Collaboration & Learning
- Coordinate with the Mechanic team on complex repairs and maintenance.
- Collaborate with the Mechanic team to learn advanced repair skills/techniques.
- Determine base warranty eligibility for engines; inspect for proper fuel type.
- Collaborate with supervisor to ensure machine performance meets safety/operational standards.
