POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the district's Career and Technical Education programs in accordance with the requirements established by the Alabama State Department of Education, the Alabama Community College System, federal Perkins requirements, and local Board of Education policies.
The Director provides leadership to ensure that all CTE programs align with workforce development needs, industry standards, post-secondary expectations, and student career readiness goals. The Director shall work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, business and industry partners, post-secondary institutions, and community stakeholders to expand opportunities for student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Career and Technical Education shall:
Program Leadership and Administration
1. Develop, supervise, and evaluate all district Career and Technical Education programs and initiatives.
2. Ensure all CTE programs comply with local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and accountability standards.
3. Coordinate the implementation of the Alabama Course of Study for Career and Technical Education programs.
4. Supervise and support CTE instructors, coordinators, and support personnel.
5. Conduct program evaluations and recommend improvements based on student performance, workforce trends, and program effectiveness.
6. Assist in developing and maintaining long-range strategic plans for CTE growth and modernization.
7. Coordinate annual program applications, improvement plans, and required state reports.
Instructional Leadership
8. Promote high-quality instructional practices and career readiness standards.
9. Monitor classroom instruction, industry credential attainment, work-based learning opportunities, and student outcomes.
10. Assist principals and school leaders in evaluating CTE personnel and program effectiveness.
11. Coordinate curriculum alignment with post-secondary institutions and workforce expectations.
12. Facilitate integration of employ-ability skills, workforce readiness, and industry-recognized certifications into CTE programs.
Compliance and Accountability
13. Ensure compliance with all federal Perkins V requirements and Alabama CTE guidelines.
14. Maintain appropriate documentation and records for audits, funding, inventory, and program accountability.
15. Coordinate all required state monitoring visits and corrective action plans.
16. Ensure safety standards and industry regulations are followed in all labs, shops, and instructional settings.
Budget and Resource Management
17. Develop and manage local, state, and federal CTE budgets.
18. Oversee purchasing, inventory control, equipment maintenance, and capital improvement planning for CTE programs.
19. Monitor the appropriate expenditure of Perkins and other grant funds.
20. Pursue additional funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships to support CTE expansion and innovation.
Workforce and Community Partnerships
21. Establish and maintain partnerships with business, industry, workforce agencies, and post-secondary institutions.
22. Coordinate advisory committees for all CTE program areas.
23. Promote work-based learning, internships, apprenticeships, dual enrollment, and career pathway opportunities.
24. Represent the school district in workforce development meetings, regional collaborations, and professional organizations.
Student Services and Career Readiness
25. Promote equitable student access to high-quality CTE opportunities.
26. Support career awareness, career exploration, and career planning initiatives.
27. Coordinate student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), competitions, and leadership development activities.
28. Assist students in obtaining industry credentials and post-secondary opportunities.
