Day & Zimmermann is seeking an experienced Site Environmental Manager to join our projects team on site in Alabama
.
The anticipated duration of this project is September 2026 – September 2028.
The D&Z Site Environmental Manager is responsible for the full management and field implementation of the project Environmental Plan. This person will serve as the primary site environmental lead and provide daily oversight of environmental compliance, documentation, subcontractor performance, corrective actions, third‑party inspections, and regulatory readiness.
Responsibilities- Own and manage implementation of the site Environmental Plan.
- Monitor daily field activities for environmental compliance risks.
- Verify that SWPPP controls and BMPs are installed, maintained, and functioning as required.
- Coordinate with the third‑party SWPPP provider and ensure inspection findings are tracked to closure.
- Conduct routine environmental site walks and document observations, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Maintain environmental compliance files, inspection records, permits, logs, photos, and incident documentation.
- Lead environmental onboarding and field‑level environmental awareness for project personnel and subcontractors.
- Review subcontractor activities for compliance with the Environmental Plan, SWPPP, BMP requirements, and site‑specific environmental controls.
- Escalate high‑risk conditions, repeat deficiencies, or potential regulatory exposures to project leadership.
- Coordinate monthly independent environmental audits and verify corrective actions are completed.
- Support spill response, release reporting, regulatory inspections, client audits, and environmental incident investigations.
- Support project closeout, final stabilization documentation, permit termination, and environmental record retention.
- 7–10 years of environmental compliance experience in construction, civil infrastructure, energy, utility, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance on active construction sites with significant land disturbance.
- Working knowledge of Clean Water Act requirements, NPDES construction stormwater permitting, SWPPP implementation, erosion and sediment control, spill prevention, waste management, chemical storage, fueling, equipment maintenance, and environmental inspection practices.
- Ability to interpret environmental permits, SWPPP requirements, site drawings, grading plans, drainage plans, BMP details, and regulatory conditions.
- Experience leading environmental field inspections, identifying deficiencies, assigning corrective actions, tracking closure, and maintaining defensible records.
- Ability to manage environmental compliance across subcontractors and coordinate with project leadership, construction management, client representatives, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong documentation skills, including inspection reports, corrective action logs, photo records, incident reports, permit records, and closeout documentation.
- Ability to support regulatory inspections, agency communications, environmental incidents, spill response, and client audits.
- Direct experience with ADEM requirements and Alabama construction stormwater/NPDES compliance preferred.
- OSHA 30 preferred.
- Experience managing third‑party SWPPP inspectors, environmental consultants, or independent audit providers preferred.
