Position Title: Direct Care Professional
Reports to: Care Coordinator
Compensation Classification: Exempt
Work ScheduleEmployees are available as assigned to a specific 8 hour shift
SummaryGrace’s Place provides care to children and youth, ages birth to 18, who are placed by parents or guardians at the facility. Their responsibility is to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. This environment fosters physical, emotional, social, personal, creative and language development in the children.
Education and/or Experience- One or more year(s) experience working with children in similar childcare or residential settings, cross cultural experience, experience working in crisis situation and early childhood development
- High School Diploma or equivalent, early childhood training preferred
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Prior to employment, applicants must be able to pass a criminal background screen, Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR).
- Maintain a healthy environment and assure good physical care and hygiene of the children
- Role model healthy, professional and adult behavior
- Communicate effectively with families, other staff members and management
- Work as part of a team with staff members, volunteers and management
- Manage children’s behavior in a positive manner, as well as meeting their medical and health care needs
- Complete required documentation as it relates to children being cared for and other work related items as needed
- Support relationship between Grace’s Place and the communities served
- Prepare for shift work; i.e., read files, read logs, print needed daily papers, etc.
- Complete other duties, as assigned, to meet facility needs
- Cleaning after shifts, doing laundry, etc.
- Be attentive to children as well as provide loving, positive and nurturing care to children
- Work as a team player
- Carry out group and individual activities
- Work with diverse economic, cultural and racial backgrounds
- Problem-solve under pressure and perform multiple tasks at the same time
- Creativity and initiative
- Role-model appropriate behavior for young children
- Role-model appropriate behavior towards other staff members
- Written and oral communication skills
- First Aid and CPR certification
- 25 hours of agency specific training a year
While performing the duties of this job, Direct Care Professionals are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear and climb steps. The position requires some computer use, so sufficient hand dexterity is required. Along with being able to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
