Project Accountant

Summary

A well-established mechanical and plumbing contractor is seeking a Project Accountant to support day-to-day financial operations across commercial HVAC, plumbing, and service projects. This role works closely with both finance and operations and is involved in general accounting along with project-related financials.

This is a good fit for someone with construction or contractor accounting experience who understands job costing and wants to be part of a growing, stable team.

• Support general accounting including GL, journal entries, and month-end close
• Assist with job cost tracking, cost allocations, and project financials
• Prepare AIA billing, progress billing, and invoicing
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including collections
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
• Maintain WIP schedules, revenue tracking, and cost reporting
• Support payroll coordination and labor/job cost tracking
• Assist with subcontractor compliance (lien waivers, insurance, 1099s)
• Help with financial reporting, audits, and internal documentation
• Work with project managers on budgets, cost tracking, and reporting

• 3–6+ years of accounting experience
• Experience in a construction or contractor environment strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Exposure to job costing, WIP, and project-based accounting
• Experience with AIA or construction billing preferred
• Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, reporting)
• Experience with Quick Books, Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation, or Procore preferred
• Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
