Position Overview
Adjunct Faculty – Counselor Education (teaching introductory, advanced, and doctoral level courses, and field placement courses) at Kean University’s Union campus, Jersey City campus, or Ocean campus.
Responsibilities- Teach one, three, or four credit classes according to the course schedule.
- Provide at least one hour of availability outside the classroom per week for each 3–4 credit class.
- For each additional class taught, provide an additional 30 minutes of availability.
- Provide at least 30 minutes of availability per week for courses with fewer than three credits.
- Availability may be conducted in person or virtually, scheduled to accommodate student needs.
- Attend required faculty meetings, prepare and submit assignments within agreed timelines, and maintain competency in the university’s Learning Management System.
- Master’s degree in counseling or related field (Ph.D. or Ed.D. encouraged).
- Required licensure or certification for teaching doctoral level courses:
Doctoral degree in Counseling or related discipline. - Preferred certifications:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), School Counselor Certification, Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) Certification, Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). - Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
- Proficiency in the university’s Learning Management System.
Adjuncts are compensated per credit at the rates specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement: $2,100 per credit (effective September
2025) and $2,225 per credit (effective September
2026). From the 13th semester taught, adjuncts receive an additional $75 per credit. Adjuncts are enrolled in a state‑administered retirement plan when eligible and may opt into the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program for medical and prescription coverage.
Teaching assignments may be at any of Kean University’s New Jersey campuses:
Union, Jersey City, Ocean (Toms River), Skylands (Jefferson Township), or other affiliated sites. Adjuncts also may deliver online courses for Kean Global.
