Position Summary
Kean University invites qualified applicants to serve as Adjunct Faculty in the College of Liberal Arts for the upcoming semesters in the disciplines of Africana Studies, Human Rights, and Women’s & Gender Studies. Positions are non‑tenure track and filled on an as‑needed basis.
Responsibilities- Teach one to four (3‑4 credit) courses in the assigned discipline, including specific courses such as Interdisciplinary Black Studies, Afrocentric Research Methods, Film and the African Experience, Introduction to Africana Studies, Race and Racism in the USA, and interdisciplinary courses in Human Rights, migration, justice and activism.
- Develop and deliver course materials, assessments, and instructional plans in accordance with university guidelines.
- Provide scheduled office hours: at least one hour per week for each 3‑4 credit course; at least 30 minutes per week for courses below three credits; an additional 30 minutes for each additional course taught.
- Maintain a learning management system presence and facilitate online instruction when required.
- Support student learning and academic advising as needed.
- Master’s degree in a related field; a Ph.D., Ed.D., or ABD is preferred.
- Prior teaching or instructional experience in higher education or comparable setting.
- Proficiency with a learning management system.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students in diverse and interdisciplinary environments.
- Payment per credit: $2,100 effective September
2025, $2,225 effective September
2026. - Additional $75 per credit after the 13th semester taught.
- Eligibility for a state‑administered retirement plan and Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program.
