Adjunct Faculty – Philosophy and Religion

Kean University seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Philosophy and Religion courses in‑person at the Union campus. Courses may include Intro to Ethics, Critical Thinking, Theories of Punishment, Formal Logic, Philosophy of Law, Intro to Religions of the World, and Western Religions.

• Teach 3 or 4 credit courses per semester, or 1 or 2 credit courses as directed.
• Provide at least one (1) hour of availability outside of the classroom per week for each 3‑ or 4‑credit class taught; provide thirty (30) minutes for each additional class.
• Provide at least thirty (30) minutes of availability outside of the classroom per week for each 1‑ or 2‑credit class taught.
• Schedule and conduct office hours (in person or virtual) to meet student needs.
• Use the university’s Learning Management System for course management and communication.

• Master’s degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a related field; ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D., or other acceptable doctorate encouraged.
• Teaching experience in higher education.
• Proficiency with a Learning Management System.

• Pay rate: $2,100 per credit (effective September 2025) and $2,225 per credit (effective September 2026). Beginning with the 13th semester taught, an additional $75 per credit is awarded.
• Enrollment in a state‑administered retirement plan (eligible).
• Eligibility to enroll in the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program for medical and prescription drug coverage.

Faculty must be willing to teach at one or more of Kean’s New Jersey campus locations, including Union, Toms River (Kean Ocean), Jefferson Township (Kean Skylands), Jersey City, Brookdale, Manahawkin, Princeton, or Trenton. Teaching assignments are based on operational and university needs. Online instruction for Kean Global is also possible.
