Adjunct Faculty – Kean University
Kean University is seeking adjunct faculty for upcoming semesters across various programs. Positions are non‑tenure track and require a Master’s degree in a related field and teaching experience, unless otherwise indicated. A doctoral degree in a health‑related field is required for advanced level courses. Expertise in a Learning Management System is required.
Subject areas and teaching responsibilities- Public Health – teach courses such as Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Global Health, Introduction to Public Health, Principles of Public and Community Health, and Health and Social Justice (in‑person at Union or Kean Ocean campuses).
- Recreation Administration (Sport & Event Management) – teach courses such as Introduction to Sport and Event Management, Legal Aspects of Recreation, Sport and Event Financial Aspects, Event Management, and Sport Promotion and Sponsorship (in‑person at Union or Kean Ocean campuses).
- Exercise Science (BS) – teach undergraduate courses including Introduction to Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning, Prescriptive Exercise, Exercise Testing & Interpretation, Strength & Fitness, Personal Fitness, Statistics in Exercise Science, Biomechanics and Kinesiology. Preferred: certificated Exercise Physiologist (EP‑C ACSM) or Personal Trainer Certification (NCSF, ACSM, or NSCA).
- Exercise Science (MS) – teach graduate‑level courses such as Nutrition for Fitness, Health and Athletic Performance, Advanced Exercise Physiology, and Advanced Neuromuscular Physiology. Preferred certifications as above. Ph.D., Ed.D., or other doctoral degrees strongly encouraged.
- Emergency Services – teach courses including Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) Emergency Medical Responder, ECSI Advanced First Aid, AHA and BLS Provider, and Introduction to Principles of Emergency Management. Certification as an EMS professional, instructor credentials for the AHA and BLS, and experience teaching First Aid or EMS required.
- Yoga & Mindfulness – teach undergraduate courses in Yoga, Meditation, and Mindfulness (in‑person at Union and Ocean campuses). Courses include Foundations of Yoga, Mindfulness & Wellbeing, Intro to Yoga, and Yoga Teaching Practicum. Preferred: national yoga certification (e.g., RYT‑200 or RYT‑500) from a Yoga Alliance‑recognized program and significant teaching experience. Strong foundation in yoga philosophy, trauma‑informed teaching, and embodied practices preferred.
Availability Requirements
Adjunct faculty teaching 3 or 4 credit classes must provide at least 1 hour of availability outside the classroom per week during each semester. Each additional class requires an extra 30 minutes of availability. Adjuncts teaching fewer than 3 credits must provide at least 30 minutes per week. Availability may be in person or virtual and is scheduled by the instructor.
Compensation& Benefits
- Effective September 2025: $2,100 per credit.
- Effective September 2026: $2,225 per credit.
- Starting with the 13th semester taught, an additional $75 per credit is added.
- Adjuncts are enrolled in a state‑administered retirement plan when eligible and may be eligible to enroll in the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program for medical and prescription drug coverage.
