Adjunct Faculty – Department of English
Kean University seeks qualified adjunct faculty to teach first-year Composition and World Literature courses in‑person at Union and Jersey City campuses. Adjunct positions are non‑tenure track and filled on an as‑needed basis. Candidates may be contacted if an opening becomes available.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned first‑year composition and world literature courses.
- Prepare and deliver engaging, high‑quality instructional materials.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate records.
- Offer office hours: at least one hour per week for courses of 3 or 4 credits, or at least thirty minutes per week for courses of less than 3 credits; additional availability may be provided at discretion.
- Participate in mandatory departmental meetings and professional development sessions.
- Use and maintain the university’s Learning Management System in accordance with mandatory guidelines.
- Master’s degree in English or a related field, or ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D., or other acceptable disciplinary doctorate.
- Teaching experience in higher‑education settings, unless otherwise indicated.
- Proficiency in a Learning Management System.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- $2,100 per credit (effective September 2025)
- $2,225 per credit (effective September 2026)
- From the 13th semester taught, an additional $75 per credit.
- Enrolled in a state‑administered retirement plan (when eligible).
- Eligibility to enroll in the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program.
Assignments may be at Union, Kean Skylands (Jefferson Township), Toms River, Jersey City, Brookdale, Manahawkin, Princeton, Trenton, or online through Kean Global.
