DISTRICT WIDE SUPERVISOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION  SCHOOL YEAR

The Township of Union Public Schools is seeking dedicated, knowledgeable, and qualified Supervisor

REQUIRED
  • Valid New Jersey Supervisor Certificate
  • Previous experience as as supervisor of special services preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a member of the Child Study Team/Case manager as a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or LDTC
  • Knowledge of requirements and work of therapeutic service providers.
  • Knowledge of data collection and interpretation to guide instruction.
  • Knowledge of N.J.A.C. 6A:14 Procedural Safeguards and compliance with state law
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary assessments to determine student eligibility for Special Education and Related Services.
  • Strong knowledge of classroom management and interventions related to educational disabilities
  • Demonstrates effective use of administrative and instructional technology
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with school, district and community constituencies
  • In depth experience with school organizational management/leadership/crisis management
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works to achieve current New Jersey learning standards and district educational goals and objectives by coordinating the efforts of certified staff to promote active learning and skills development in the classroom. Coordinates the efforts of certified staff to teach pupils through an approved course of study using board-adopted curricula, textbooks, and other appropriate teaching materials.
  • Coordinates and assists the efforts of certified staff with providing exceptional instructional experiences for pupils including:
    • developing instructional plans and materials aligned to specific objectives within scheduled class time
    • assessing personal student educational progress toward stated objectives of instruction and foundational skills using a variety of assessment tools that encourage critical thinking and analytical reasoning as well as recall and recollection of information; analyzing the data that results from classroom assessments
    • maintaining records and documentation per district/board approved forms and utilize these records for reporting purposes
    • foster a classroom climate conducive to learning
  • Assists certified staff when requested in their efforts to communicate with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss pupil progress.
  • Supports their own professional growth and development and promotes the professional growth and development of certified staff through memberships, attendance at relevant meetings, promotion of and/or leading workshops, enrollment in advanced courses, reading professional journals and other publications, and participating in other experiences.
  • Assists certified staff in their efforts to make effective use of resources to enhance the instructional program.
  • Upholds and enforces administrative regulations and board policy, and serves as a liaison to ascertain facts and make reports.
  • Assists the building principals, directors, Assistant Superintendent and District Superintendent in gathering information for reports.
  • Attends meetings as assigned and accurately reports back to certified staff on items related to achieving district educational goals.
  • Conduct walkthroughs and formal evaluations of instructional staff using the BOE approved evaluation tool(s) as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • In collaboration with Building Principals and Directors identify specific professional development needs and design workshop sessions that address those needs effectively related to special education needs and inclusion.
  • Provide support to building administration to ensure quality and compliance with NJDOE requirements for all certified staff (evaluations, SGOs, summative conferences, composite scores, etc.
  • Supports special education staff members through advisement of NJAC 6A:14, district policies and regulations, and requirements for provision of IEP services and programming.
  • Attends IEP meetings as needed, consults with vendors to support services required by students, supports building principals in the arrangement of services by CST, behaviors supports, and paraprofessionals
  • Oversee CST, Related Service Providers, Special Education Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Special Services Support Staff.
