Overview

Are We the Place for You? Since 1947, Boston Firefighters Credit Union (BFCU) has provided compassionate, high-touch service to those who protect and serve. With nearly $450 million in assets, a strong capital position (12.43% net worth), and a loyal Field of Membership, the credit union is poised for growth and evolution—including a rebranding and market expansion effort to better reflect its broadened reach and deepen its presence across the Commonwealth.

BFCU is dedicated to serving the financial needs of first responders and their families across Massachusetts. We provide trusted, member-focused financial solutions that promote security, growth, and opportunity. Guided by integrity, community, and innovation, we strive to honor the service of first responders by delivering exceptional value, personalized support, and lasting impact in the communities we serve. Our membership includes employees and retirees of fire departments, police departments, and municipally operated EMS departments, along with the associations and labor unions that support them.

To better reflect our commitment to the entire first responders’ community statewide, the credit union is preparing to rebrand with a broader identity that honors and represents all those we serve. Expansive digital delivery will be key to our success. Boston offers a vibrant mix of historic charm and modern amenities—home to world-class universities, sports teams, cultural institutions, coastal beauty, and one of the country’s oldest fire departments.

Living here means exploring the Freedom Trail, cheering at Fenway Park, savoring diverse cuisine, and walking along the Charles River. Serving BFCU means being part of a community that values service, resilience, and heart.

Is This the Career for You?

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports directly to the President/CEO and serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board of Directors. The CFO provides enterprise leadership across financial strategy, capital, and liquidity management, asset/liability management, regulatory compliance, and business intelligence, translating complex financial and operational information into clear, actionable insight that supports sound decision-making.

This role is responsible for ensuring the credit union’s long-term financial strength while balancing growth, risk, and member value. The CFO supports the Board’s fiduciary responsibilities and serves as a steward of BFCU’S cooperative mission, ensuring strong financial performance in service of first responders and their families.

Boston Firefighters Credit Union views finance as a strategic enabler of growth, not a constraint. The CFO aligns financial discipline with strategic priorities by setting financial direction, approving budgets and forecasts, managing capital and liquidity, and ensuring risk is well understood and managed as the organization scales.

The CFO provides direct oversight of Accounting, Treasury, Decision Support, and enterprise Business Intelligence, including leadership and development of the Vice President, Financial Reporting & Analysis. Business intelligence is a core responsibility of this role, with accountability for BI strategy, performance, framework, and partnership with IT to design, govern, and evolve data platforms, dashboards, and analytics.

Our CFO will be strategic, forward-thinking, collaborative, decisive, and committed to shared success. The ideal candidate is a trusted executive partner who brings strong business judgement, values, transparency, and is deeply aligned with BFCU’s mission of serving first responders and their families.
